The oesophageal and stomach surgery service works very closely with the specialist Upper Gastrointestinal (GI) service, gastroenterology, nutrition, oncology and radiology departments at UCLH. It comprises UCLH-based and Barts Health-based surgeons.

Our Proton Beam Therapy (PBT) department can treat up to 650 NHS patients per year from across the south of the UK when we are at full capacity. We provide treatment for a wide range of child and teenage cancers and complex adult cancers.

The fertility laboratory provides three main services. Semen analysis to test fertility, storage of semen samples and processing of semen samples for IUI treatments.

A number of tests are carried out by the routine haemostasis/haematology laboratories. These include full blood count, ESR, sickle cell and glandular fever screening, malaria antigen testing, blood films and acanthocytes, coagulation screens (INR/heparin monitoring), fibrinogen and D-dimers (DIC screening).

The cochlear implant programme was founded in 1982, and we were the first clinical cochlear implant programme in the UK. The team has been involved with the successful implantation of more than 2,000 patients, both adults and children, from all over the UK.
