New surgical technique preserves continence in men after prostate removal

Men currently attending a hospital outpatient clinic for prostate hormone injections every 3 or 6 months will be advised that (unless not clinically appropriate) their next injection will be administered at a local GP practice, usually by the practice nurse.
This change, led by the NCL CCG and the NCL Cancer Alliance, will be gradual and phased in over the next 6-9 months. Two thirds of GP practices in NCL already administer these injections but are unpaid. They will now be properly remunerated under a new Locally Commissioned Service specification.
Detailed information has been prepared for GP practices about implementation and training sessions are being arranged. Please see the NCL GP website for further information.
