What is the RAID clinic?
RAID (Rapid Access Infectious Diseases) clinic is an outpatient service located at the Hospital for Tropical Diseases (address and directions overleaf).
Why would I be referred to this clinic?
Your A&E clinician, GP or specialist may have directed you here if they feel you need rapid follow up or management by an infectious diseases team. You will have a consultation with a doctor from the team, who will outline a treatment plan for you.
When should I attend the RAID clinic?
Your A&E clinician will indicate which day you should attend the RAID clinic. This will be on a day between Monday-Friday, usually in the morning. Please be advised that due to the nature of the clinic, we cannot always adhere to specific appointment times. While we endeavour to keep waiting times as short as possible, at busy times please be advised that the wait may be up to 2 hours.
What should I do on arrival at the RAID clinic?
Please check in with reception on arrival at the Hospital for Tropical Diseases, and advise that you are here for the RAID clinic. You will need to provide your name, date of birth and hospital number if you were given one.
What can I expect at my appointment?
You will be seen by one of the infectious diseases team who will conduct investigations depending on your symptoms. These may include things like blood tests, x-rays and other monitoring. They will then make a follow up plan with you for management of your symptoms or conditions. Everything will be discussed with you to ensure you understand the process and are happy to proceed.
When will I get the results of these tests?
Depending on the nature of your symptoms, you may be asked to wait in clinic for some of these test results. Otherwise, you will be followed up either face to face or by telephone where your results will be discussed with you.
