RSV is a common virus that can cause a lung infection called bronchiolitis. In small babies, this condition can make it difficult to breathe and feed.
The RSV vaccine is available year-round. Information about the RSV vaccine can be found here.
RSV vaccination in pregnancy
When you have the RSV vaccination in pregnancy, your body produces antibodies to protect against it. These antibodies pass to your baby giving them very good protection from birth.
The RSV vaccine is currently available to women who are at least 28 weeks pregnant in the Antenatal Clinic - Elizabeth Garrett Anderson Wing, 25 Grafton Way, London, WC1E 6DB.
The clinic is open from 9am – 5pm, Monday – Friday (closed from 1-2pm for lunch). No booking required.
RSV vaccination in 75+ year olds
Please note that we are currently unable to offer the RSV vaccine to 75+ years olds in the hospital. Please contact your GP for further information.
For more information on travel vaccinations, visit here.
During pregnancy, your immune system (the body’s natural defence) is weakened to protect the pregnancy. This can mean you’re less able to fight off infections which is why you will be offered some during pregnancy to protect the health of you and your baby.
These include:
- Flu
- RSV
- Covid-19
- Pertussis* (whooping cough)
All of the vaccinations that are recommended during pregnancy have been shown through research to help keep you and baby safe. They are inactive, which means they do not contain a live version of the viruses they are protecting against.
