Urology psychology

At an initial telephone triage call, we will ask about your history and the urological condition you are experiencing. We will try to understand the impact the condition has had on your life and discuss your hopes and priorities for how we can help support you. We may ask you to complete a questionnaire pack in advance of meeting with us, as this can help us understand the difficulties better. Following this call, if appropriate, you will be offered up to three sessions with a member of our team. If you feel you need further support after these sessions we can support an onward referral.   

Our service is designed to support patients in a range of ways, tailored to individual need. We offer the following:

• Brief consultation and follow-up to discuss psychological issues in relation to urological conditions and care
• Direct patients towards resources they might find helpful and supportive, and support them in making use of these resources
• Signposting to other services, such as local services for longer-term or psychosexual therapy, relevant charities, and online resources

• Psychological issues related to the urological condition. For example depression, anxiety, and stress 
• Body image concerns   
• Adjustment to the impact of diagnosis or treatment   
• Surgical preparation and expectations   
• Coping with treatment challenges
• Supporting engagement with urological care in the context of psychological distress
