Patients using MyCare UCLH will receive all their appointment letters securely in MyCare instead of receiving a paper copy in the post. This will improve security by reducing the risk of letters being delayed or lost in the post and help the environment.
Digital appointment letters should be more convenient than paper for most patients. You can access all your letters anytime, anywhere through MyCare. However, some patients may prefer to get a paper letter as well as a digital copy.
If you use MyCare and need appointment letters by post, please update your communications preferences in the MyCare account settings by following the steps below.
Opting in to receive printed appointment letters
The screens shown below are from the MyCare app (MyChart), but the steps are similar on the MyCare UCLH website.
- Log into your MyCare account either on the app or website and tap the menu button at the top of the screen.
- Tap the option for "Communications Preferences".
- Scroll down to the “Appointments” section and tap “Advanced Settings”.
- Scroll down to the settings for “Appointment Letter” and tap the button next to the option for “Post”. It will turn green with a tick next to it to show that this option is now active.
- Tap the "Save Changes" button at the bottom of the screen.
- Your preference to receive a printed appointment letter has been saved.
Opting out of receiving printed appointment letters
By default, most patients will automatically stop receiving printed appointment letters when we send digital letters.
However, if you followed the above steps to opt in to continue to receive a printed appointment letter, you can change your mind and opt out again.
To do this, follow the steps above to find the “Appointment Letter” setting and untick the “Post” option and select “Save Changes”.
Additional information
In some cases, we will continue to send printed appointment letters irrespective of how the "Appointment Letter" setting has been configured. Children and Young People under the age of 16 will always receive a printed appointment letter addressed to their parent or guardian, in addition to their digital appointment letter.
The settings described above will only affect whether you receive a printed appointment letter. Patients will already receive the letters that their clinicians write after their appointment (clinic letter) and letters inviting them to surgery (To Come In or TCI letter) digitally in MyCare.
You can find more details on how to set your preferences for other forms of communication here: Communications preferences.
