Professional background
Maggie is a nurse consultant in Camden, Islington, UCLH & HCA Symptom Control & Palliative Care Service. Although beginning her career in Edinburgh working in adolescent and adult cancer care, she focused her development towards specialist palliative care, working in inpatient and community settings in central London over 25 years.
Maggie has a range of senior clinical leadership experience with people with complex palliative care needs requiring specialist care and has also supported various national and international projects. Current interests include specialist palliative care for teenagers and young people with cancer, and also psychological interventions and mental health needs in the last phase of life. She has a longstanding interest in developing a robust career framework for clinical nurse specialists in palliative care and transforming clinical services. She is the recipient of the Queen Elizabeth Award for Outstanding Service to Nursing from the Queen's Nursing Institute amongst other awards.
