Professional background
Dr Tareq El Menabawey is a Consultant Gastroenterologist at UCLH and Homerton University Hospital. His main clinical practice is in pancreatobiliary disease including ERCP and EUS.
He qualified from Newcastle Medical School in 2010 and undertook his gastroenterology specialty training in North East and Central London including a 3-year pancreatobiliary fellowship at UCLH. He is a keen educator, holding a PG Cert in medical education from UCL and is the undergraduate education lead for gastroenterology at UCLH.
He has an MSc in Medical Genetics but his research interests now lie in endoscopy training and virtual reality having spent 4 years as the training lead for gastroenterology at the Royal Free simulation centre. He has co-ordinated the working group on training standards for EUS in the UK and Ireland, published in 2023.
He has previously sat on the European Society of GI Endoscopy social media working group and has co-organised national and international virtual endoscopy conferences including London Live Endoscopy.
