Professional background

Dr Misha Kabir is a consultant gastroenterologist with a specialist interest in inflammatory bowel disease. She completed her undergraduate medical training at the University of Cambridge and King’s College London before qualifying in 2007. Her postgraduate gastroenterology training in London included a research and teaching fellowship at St Mark’s Academic Institute. She was awarded a PhD on optimising the risk stratification and management of colitis-associated dysplasia by Imperial College London. Her ongoing clinical and research interests are focused on inflammatory bowel disease therapeutics, colonoscopic surveillance and cancer prevention. Her research has led to several first-author publications in high-impact peer-reviewed journals.

She remains committed to clinical research and improving the standards of clinical care. She is a principal investigator and contributor to commercial and investigator-led clinical studies at UCLH. She has a keen interest in undergraduate/postgraduate teaching and has a postgraduate qualification in medical education. She is experienced in undertaking and teaching endoscopy and has a specialist interest in IBD surveillance colonoscopy. She plays an active role within the British Society of Gastroenterology and has been an advocate for equality, diversity and inclusion in her former role as Chair of the Supporting Women in Gastroenterology (SWiG) committee. She is a co-author of the 2024 updated British Society of Gastroenterology guidelines for IBD management and for IBD colorectal cancer surveillance.
