Professional background

Dr Ailbhe Burke is a consultant neurologist specialising in neuro-ophthalmology providing locum support to the Queen Square Eye Clinic since 2024.

After qualifying in Medicine at Cambridge in 2008, Dr Ailbhe Burke completed training through academic medicine rotations in Newcastle and London, then neurology in London and Melbourne, Australia. She has worked as a consultant in neuro-ophthalmology at Moorfields since completing the Moorfields Neuro-Ophthalmology Fellowship in 2019, including co-leading on neuro-emergency and helping develop and deliver their emerging virtual pathways. 

Dr Ailbhe Burke trained in psychology and undertook research in genetics at King’s College London before studying Medicine, and was a research editor for the BMJ for seven years, alongside specialty medical training. She is a founding member and current vice-president of the UK Neuro-Ophthalmology Society (UKNOS) and is active in medical education and training.
