Sir Keir and Wes Streeting visited the proton beam therapy (PBT) centre on 11 September where they heard from PBT clinical lead, Yen Ching Chang, along with medical director for cancer and surgery, Geoff Bellingan, about this highly targeted radiotherapy treatment for hard-to-treat cancers. UCLH is one of two national NHS centres delivering PBT along with The Christie in Manchester.

The Prime Minister and Secretary of State also joined a group of UCLH staff to hear about their roles, and spent time listening to their ideas for the future of the NHS.

David Probert, chief executive, said: “This was a fantastic day for UCLH – hosting both the Prime Minister and the Health and Social Care Secretary in our newest hospital. They were both very keen to hear from our staff who are delivering care, as well as the patients we treat.

“I was incredibly proud of all of our staff who spoke so eloquently about the positives, and some challenges, of working in the NHS and how we can work to build a bright future that benefits patients and staff.”
