Anna Richardson: Love, Loss and Dementia

Anna Richardson: Love, Loss and Dementia tells Anna’s family’s dementia story as she meets other families living with dementia, hearing their stories and confronting the myths and social taboos surrounding the disease.

Anna also met Prof Cath Mummery a UCLH Consultant and researcher leading the UK effort in global trials of drugs targeting amyloid and other proteins in the brain, aiming to modify the disease and prevent symptom onset in those at risk of genetic and sporadic forms of Alzheimer’s.

Prof Mummery said: “There are over 900,000 people in the UK with Alzheimer’s disease so it is crucial that we find treatments to improve the lives of individuals and to help care systems cope with the growing numbers of people living with the disease.”

“We are at the beginning of a new era in the treatment of Alzheimer’s disease: for the first time we have disease modifying therapies. This gives us a solid foundation that we can build on to create drugs with even greater benefit that will have a truly meaningful impact on people’s lives.”

The documentary screened on Wednesday 2 October at 10pm on Channel 4 and was produced in association with the Alzheimer’s Society. It can be watched at this link link to catch up.
