Homelands: An Exhibition of Landscapes

The Street Gallery, Ground floor, University College Hospital, 235 Euston Road NW1 2BU

Friday 3rd May - Thursday 4th July

UCLH Arts & Heritage are excited to present Homelands: An Exhibition of Landscapes by artist Lydia Bauman.

Lydia Bauman is an artist and respected art historian born in Warsaw, Poland, who now works and lives in London, UK. The exhibition features a selection of landscape paintings from the artist, ranging from the cultivated landscapes of the Mediterranean to the deserts of North Africa. UCLH Arts & Heritage hopes that the serenity of the landscapes provides a welcome distraction for those visiting the hospital.

As a landscape painter, Lydia combines figurative and abstract techniques. The surface texture of the paintings is achieved through a complex mixed-media technique combining plaster, resin, wax, sand, and acrylic texture gels.

"I developed the technique in search of visual equivalents to the particular character of each landscape - the subtleties of the various media combine to evoke the genius loci of each place."

About the Artist

Lydia has a BA in Fine Art from the University of Newcastle and an MA in History of Art from the Courtauld Institute of Art. She has exhibited widely in solo and group shows in the UK, USA, and Poland. Her work is in several private and public collections, including Saatchi and Saatchi, Dorchester Hotel, Deutsche Bank, and Leeds University Art Gallery.
