Down the Garden Path
15th November 2022 - 15th March 2023
Down The Garden Path is a collection of bright and beautiful artworks from various contemporary artists with different styles. The exhibition has been curated by UCLH Arts and Heritage, with the aim of raising funds for UCLH Charity’s gardens appeal.
“The UCLH arts and heritage is proud to be supported by UCLH Charity, and so we are delighted to support them with this exhibition. We hope that the artworks on display brighten the corridors of University College Hospital in the cold winter months and help keep our green spaces looking great for all to enjoy. We would like to thank all the artists involved for their generosity.” - Kryssie Tyrtania, Assistant Arts Curator.
Each piece of artwork is available to purchase – money raised will go to the UCLH Charity Gardens appeal. You can read more about the appeal here: Keeping UCLH in bloom | UCLH Charity
The arts and heritage team is supported by UCLH Charity, Friends and other charitable sources.
About the Artists
Adam Bridgland has used a diverse range of materials and working methods to pursue an incisive and often witty exploration of distinctively British sentiments, externalising the underlying sense of loss and nostalgia that permeates our memories.
Alec Cumming is an artist working internationally having spent several years working in India, California and Sri Lanka. Within his vibrant and playful work, he explores the idea of fleeting moments.
Claire Halifax is a London-based artist focusing on cityscapes, landscapes, and botanicals. Design, pattern and colour play an essential part in each piece of work, adding depth and decoration to create a unique overall effect.
Craig Keegan is a printmaker specialising in cyanotypes. He explores the depth and richness of colour that the cyanotype process produces and the gestural brush strokes and mark-making.
Diana Forbes's colourful botanical works invite viewers into her garden, where intense reds, lush greens, and vivid pinks are a recurring theme. Her unique approach incorporates a cut-paper Japanese collage, which adds a translucent quality to the colours, reminiscent of light filtering through flower petals.
Ellie Edwards is a London-based printmaker. Inspired by her background in food writing, her lino prints range from croissants to negroni cocktails. Ellie loves how food brings people together and can provide such vivid, positive memories. Being able to capture that moment in print and make it permanent brings her much joy.
Harriet Popham makes bright, cheerful prints celebrating special places and moments in time.
Laura Gee's practice explores the notion that art, just like nature, can positively affect our well-being and alleviate stress and anxiety. Her paintings are a celebration of nature and, in doing so, to take care of our world and each other.
Lucy Mahone's work is based on rituals and places that bring comfort, nostalgia, happiness or a feeling of home. Spanning nature, architecture and experiences in between, her artworks are visual love letters to our world.
Marie Devaux is a London-based contemporary artist known for her vivid portrayals of mountain landscapes and floral abstracts. Her work conveys the energy and emotion of travel, culture and nature through photography, painting and printmaking.
Olivia Durley is a contemporary British artist currently living and working from her home studio in Hertfordshire. Her work handles the two realities of paint; its illusionistic spatiality and its material presence.
